The Law of Connection - Sales = Leadership
Reading this morning in John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership I was reminded of the fact that everything we do in the people business is leadership, a principle that SFG has built into its DNA. In the Law of Connection Maxwell gives us 8 important keys to connection. Here is a sampling -
- Connect with Yourself - You must know who you are and have confidence in yourself if you desire to connect with others.
- Live your Message - Practice what you Preach (What it lacks in profundity it makes up for in simple truth)
- Focus on Them, Not Yourself - Connection follows focus. When I think "how do they see me" I am focusing on me. When I think "let me find out about them so I can learn how to help" I am focusing on them.
A mentor has been teaching me about the nature of Humility. He tells me that at it's core humility is about getting ourselves out of the way so we can create the space for other people to step into fullness. Humility is preparing (practice/drill/repeat) for my interactions so that when the time comes my skill takes care of the format, so I can focus on the other person, connect and build value into the relationship.
Whether I am out covering families or developing leaders Connection with people creates the space for real relationships and trust.
